Purpose of this Document
ARINC Specification 628 defines general architectural philosophy and specific design guidance for the proper installation and interface of various cabin equipment. Consistency with ARINC Specification 628 allows each respective piece of equipment to operate in concert when integrated with other relevant cabin type equipment.
ARINC Specification 628, Part 2, defines standards electrical and mechanical interfaces of the In-Flight Entertainment System (IFES) equipment associated with the seat. This equipment consists of the Headphones, Passenger Control Unit (PCU), Seat Video Display (SVD), Personal Video Player (PVP), Telephone Handset (including the Cord), and the Seat Electronics Box (SEB). Appropriate definitions are also provided for other electrical devices associated with the seat contour/position mechanism. The intent is to make this specification more useful for effectively integrating all the components of the seat. The related seat contour/position equipment consists of the Seat Control Unit (SCU), Seat Actuator Controller (SAC), and seat actuator motor(s).
A generic block diagram of a passenger seat equipped with the IFES and seat control equipment is shown in Attachment 1 – Seat Interfaces Block Diagram. Each component may perform its basic function or operate as a multi-function unit. For example, the telephone handset may also be used to control video games, or a single enhanced unit may perform the functions of both the PCU and the SCU.
