Purpose of This Document
This document defines the aviation industry standards fortransfer of digital data between avionics system elements usingmultiple access, bi-directional protocol. This standard isapplicable to inter-system and intra-system communication. Itdefines the characteristics necessary to interface with a generalpurpose data bus for universal communication. It is intended to beused in conjunction with ARINC Characteristics which defineavionics equipment.
This document refers to Part 2 of ARINC Specification 629 whichis an Application Guide for using the bus. It refers to Part 3 ofARINC Specification 629 which is an example format for definingdata labels and wordstring formats. Part 4 is a compatibility TestPlan. Parts 2 through 4 are in draft form at the time of thiswriting.
ARINC Specification 629 was developed to provide an efficientdata distribution system resulting in a reduction in the amount ofairplane wiring and equipment interfaces. It is intended to advancethe implementation of systems requiring voluminous and rapid dataexchange such as centralized maintenance equipment. In general, judicious implementation of the system definition as provided byARINC Specification 629 will provide a cost effective solution tooverall avionics system design and integration.
