This standard is intended to be applicable to all aircraftloadable software. The standard may impact a variety of softwaretools including software data loaders, software mass storagedevices, software part creation tools, software distribution tools, and software management tools.
This document is not intended to impact the software loadprocess to target Line Replaceable Units (LRU). The protocols forsoftware loading and the resulting software in the target LRU areunchanged.
This document does not define any new formats for softwareparts, digitally signed software parts, or electronic crates. Theseare defined by existing standards. This standard defines a way topackage various software part formats without changing any of thefiles defined by existing part format standards. Use of thisstandard does not require part number changes for packaging ofexisting software parts into the logical structure.
Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to provide a method forpackaging aircraft software parts for distribution usingcontemporary media or by electronic distribution.
This document defines a logical format structure for thecontainment of aircraft Loadable Software Parts (LSP) for storageon contemporary portable media, stored on mass storage devices, distributed electronically, and loaded to aircraft equipmentwithout being restricted to the use of a particular portablephysical media (e.g., floppy disks, CD-ROMs).
