The requirements listed in this document aim at specifyinginteroperable functional elements:
• Data link: MAC, VL addressing concept
• Network: IP, ICMP
• Transport: UDP, TCP (optional)
• Network application layers: Sampling, Queuing, SAP, TFTP andSNMP
This document will be limited to the description of thenormative protocols listed above.
COMMENTARY
System designers may add other protocols on a case-by-case basis(example FTP at network application layer), but there is noguarantee that an AFDX compliant LRU implements this additionalprotocol.
Physical layer is not specified here, but should be any of theARINC 664 Part 2 defined solutions.
This means that any AFDX compliant LRU (including switch) can beconnected to any AFDX network, as far as the Form and Fitrequirements (specific to the System and not specified in thisdocument) are respected.
COMMENTARY
Interchangeable AFDX switch could be defined in an ARINC 700-series or 900-series specification.
Purpose of Document
The purpose of this document is to define a deterministicnetwork: Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX™).AFDX™ is a trademark of Airbus and is used withpermission. This document also highlights the additionalperformance requirements of avionics systems, within the context ofAFDX.
This specification allows:
• System integrators to design flight critical systems usingAFDX
• Equipment designers to specify equipment interoperable withAFDX
