The scope of this specification is to define the guidance toensure inter-operation with non-IP protocols and services or upperlayer services as viewed within the context of the OSI referencemodel.
Purpose and Objectives
ARINC Specification 664: Aircraft DataNetwork (ADN), Part 8 – Interconnection with Non-IP Protocols andServices provides guidance for development of aeronauticalapplications and services other than those defined in theTransmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) familyof protocols so they may be transported over the TCP/IP network. The primary focus of this effort is on the air/ground applicationsof the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) (e.g.,Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC), Air Data System(ADS), Flight Information System (FIS), and ContextManagement Application (CMA).
The purpose of Part 8 is to allow aeronautical applications tointerface to the Transport layer of the Transmission ControlProtocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network architecture.
The main objectives for ATN applications are:
— Ensure co-existence between the International Civil AviationOrganization (ICAO) ATN and AEEC TCP/IP networks andapplications
— Describe a migration architecture for theintroduction of ICAO applications over TCP/IP
