Purpose of Document
This document defines the airline industry standards for theElectronic Distribution of Software (EDS). It describes the commonprinciples and rules to be applied when transferring software(typically Field Loadable Software) between organizations. Theseprinciples and rules are intended to ensure compatibility andinteroperability. This includes file naming, content, labeling, compression, encryption, authentication, and formatting “packages”containing software and definitions of software transportmedia.
Uniform system and tool implementations enable common(standardized) processes, procedures and support tools. Developersof tools and processes should reference this standard for thedefinition of Software Package and Media Package content andformat.
Applicability
This standard is primarily applicable to Field Loadable Software(FLS) and other software used in aircraft systems, target hardwareand support equipment. This standard may also be applied to otherdata products when it is determined to be appropriate. Theseadditional products may then benefit from the use of the commonprocesses, procedures, or support tools developed to support thisstandard.
