Purpose of this Characteristic
This document, Part 1, sets forth the desired characteristics ofthe Aviation Satellite Communications (SATCOM) System avionicsintended for installation in all types of commercial transport andbusiness aircraft. The intent of this document is to providegeneral and specific guidance on the form factor and pinassignments for the installation of the avionics primarily forairline use. Part 2 describes the desired operational capability ofthe equipment as configured with the Satellite Data Unit (SDU) toprovide data and voice communications, as well as additionalstandards necessary to ensure interchangeability.
