This document is based upon the SAE ARP5602 document, AGuideline for Aerospace Platform Fiber Optic Training and AwarenessEducation. ARINC Report 807: Fiber OpticTraining Requirements is a subset of the SAE ARP5602 documentdesigned to meet the requirements of the commercial air transportindustry. Certification to the SAE ARP5602 document fulfills therequirements of ARINC Report 807.
This document defines recommended general practices for trainingrequirements of aerospace fiber optic systems. It is the intentionof this document to outline proven training practices and generalstandards of workmanship for technicians engaged in aerospace fiberoptic manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and repair for theair transport industry. It is also recommended that management andpurchasing personnel receive fundamental training to familiarizethemselves with the requirements of aerospace fiber optics.
Regarding the aerospace industry in the United States, the Electronics Technician Association International (ETA) is thefiber optic industry recognized training certification entity.Outside the U.S., the ETA is available but not as widely utilizedfor certification purposes and there is currently no industryrecognized certification process.
If an aerospace organization utilizes the ETA forcertification processes, an approved certificationorganization that is a certified administrator for the ETA shouldbe utilized to provide the individual’s initial certification. Uponsuccessful completion of the training, the individual will receivean ETA certification with endorsements for the types of termini, cable, and connectors completed during the course of instruction. The ETA will maintain certification records.
