Purpose of this Document
This specification defines general architectural philosophy andspecific design guidance for the proper installation and interfaceof various cabin equipment within the seats. Consistency with thisspecification allows each component installed on the seat tooperate in concert when integrated with other relevant cabin typeequipment. Standard electrical and mechanical interfaces of theIn-Flight Entertainment System (IFES) equipment for the 3rdGeneration Cabin Network (3GCN) associated with the seat aredefined. This equipment consists of the Headphone Jacks (HPJ),Passenger Control Unit (PCU)/multi-function handset (including thecord), Seat Video Display (SVD), Remote Data Outlet (RDO),Integrated Seat Box (ISB) which includes the Seat Power Box (SPB)and Seat Data Box (SDB), Remote Power Outlet (RPO), and in-seatcables. Appropriate definitions are also provided for otherelectrical devices associated with the seat control and positionmechanism. The related seat control/position equipment consists ofthe Seat Control Unit (SCU), Seat Automation Controller (SAC), andseat actuator motor(s). The intent is to make this specificationmore useful for effectively integrating all the components of theseat.
Generic block diagrams of a passenger seat equipped with theIn-Flight Entertainment (IFE) and seat control equipment is shownin Figure 1-1 – 3GCN ARINC 808 Seat Interface Diagram. Eachcomponent may perform its basic function or operate as amulti-function unit.
