The scope of this document is to define a wireless cabin distribution architecture including:
• Overall System Architecture
• Supported Protocols
• System and Network Security
Wireless system performance will not be covered in this document as the performance of the Cabin Wireless Access Points (CWAP) that provide the wireless network is covered in ARINC 628 Part 1, Section 17.0.
Purpose
The purpose of this specification is to define the general architectural philosophy and specific design guidance for a wireless cabin distribution system that can be used in a standalone configuration or as a part of a larger In-Flight Entertainment System (IFES). This system will provide wireless network connectivity to passenger owned devices, crew devices and embedded devices installed in the airplane.
The wireless cabin distribution system should be designed to support any specific airplane configuration and be scaleable for use on all commercial aircraft types.
