Purpose: ARINC Specification 824 describes the general OnboardMobile Telephony System (OMTS) architecture and aircraftinfrastructure for proper installation and interfacing to thevarious system related equipment. Consistency with ARINC 824 allowseach respective system to operate in concert when integrated withother relevant cabin equipment.
This document provides standards necessary to achieveinterchangeability between equipment providers. Attachment 1specifies an interconnection scheme by which aircraft can be wiredto enable full interchangeability between OMTS products fromdifferent suppliers. Attachment 1 also specifies a minimuminterface configuration which can be viewed as a desirable futureimplementation on new aircraft because of its potential forsignificant weight and space savings along with the possibility forless complex integration into the OEM production environment. TheOMTS standard includes the physical interfaces, wiring, connectors, space envelopes, equipment chassis, unit co-location requirements, and power requirements. The basic functionality within eachcomponent of the OMTS is covered. Detailed functionality, protocols, and design parameters unique to each system supplier arenot covered in this document. Design guidelines are included thatimpact the interfaces and installation of cabin equipment on boardthe aircraft.
