Purpose. This regulationa.

a. Provides procedures for the submission ofapplications for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission licenses forbyproduct, source, and special nuclear materials.

b. Prescribes procedures :for control of radioactivematerials not licensed by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.

c. Provides guidance for Department of Army agencies inprocuring, coordinating, or controlling the use of radioactivematerials.

Applicability. The provisions of thisregulation apply to all Department of the Army agencies applyingfor the use of unlicensed radioactive materials, or U.S. AtomicEnergy Commission licenses for byproduct, source and specialnuclear materials which will be possessed, used, stored, ordisposed of within the United States and its territories andpossessions. U.S. Atomic Energy Commission licenses are notrequired for byproduct, source, or special nuclear materialspossessed, used, stored, or disposed by the Department of the Armyagencies outside of the United States and its territories andpossessions. This regulation is not applicable to the procurementor use of radioactive materials in nuclear or radiological weaponsand nuclear reactors established in accordance with provisions ofSection 91 Atomic Energy Act of 1954, or to the operations of theDefense Atomic Support Agency.
