This Standard specifies a method for testing field-cut preservatives, exposed outdoors in contact with the ground.
The test method uses samples with cross sections typical of treated commodities and thus evaluates the performance of the preservative when applied by brush or dip. It is suitable for testing the effectiveness of new or modified field-cut preservatives. Square posts are treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA-C) to create a thin shell of treatment and to confine colonization by decay fungi to specific cuts made after treatment. They are pressure-washed or soaked and dried, then cut to create end-matched samples and the CCA-treated surfaces are painted to prevent leaching. Field-cut preservatives are brush-coated onto the cut ends.
