This specification prescribes requirements for the classification oflow-alloy steel electrodes forflux cored arc welding (FCAW) either with or without shielding gas.Iron is the only element whosecontent exceeds 10.5 percent in undiluted weld metal deposited bythese electrodes. Metal coredlow-alloy steel electrodes are not classified under this specificationbut are classified accordingto AWS A5.28/A5.28M.(Footnote 1)
Safety and health issues and concerns are beyond the scope of thisstandard and, therefore, are notfully addressed herein. Some safety and health information can befound in the nonmandatory AnnexSections A5 and A9. Safety and health information is available fromother sources, including, butnot limited to, ANSI Z49.1(Footnote 2) and applicable federal andstate regulations.
This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units and theInternational System of Units(SI). The measurements are not exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem must be used independentlyof the other without combining in any way when referring to weld metalproperties. Thespecification with the designation A5.29 uses U.S. Customary Units. The specification A5.29M usesSI Units. The latter are shown within brackets [ ] or in appropriatecolumns in tables and figures.Standard dimensions based on either system may be used for the sizingof electrodes or packaging orboth under the A5.29 and A5.29M specifications.
