This specification prescribes requirements for theclassification of plain carbon steel, chromium-molybdenum low alloysteel, stainless steel, nickel alloy, and coppernickel alloyconsumable inserts1 for use in conjunction with the gastungsten arc welding process. These inserts also may be used withany other welding process for which they are found suitable.Included are packaging and testing requirements.
Safety and health issues and concerns are beyond the scope ofthis standard and, therefore, are not fully addressed herein. This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units andthe International System of Units (SI). The measurements are notexact equivalents, therefore, each system must be usedindependently of the other without combining in any way whenreferring to material properties. The specification with thedesignation A5.30 uses U.S. Customary Units. The specificationA5.30M uses SI Units. The latter are shown within brackets [ ] orin appropriate columns in tables. Standard dimensions based oneither system may be used for sizing of consumable inserts underA5.30 and A5.30M.
