This guide introduces computational weld mechanics methodologythrough an overview of the current technology. It presents currentpractices for heat transfer, microstructure, residual stress, anddistortion calculations. In addition, a framework for developingverification and validation (V&V) procedures for these modelsis presented through an example related to the prediction ofthermo-mechanical conditions. This document establishes thefoundation for future V&V operations to allow for otheremerging computational weld mechanics tools.
