THIRD EDITION
The publication provides a system for uniform identification ofcutting, welding, and heating/brazing nozzles. A common informationbase has been established that the operator can rely on to identifynozzle performance from one manufacturer to another. The overallintent of this system is to provide manufacturers a commonidentification system to be marked on nozzles, which will result inthe safe operation of oxyfuel nozzles, i.e., operators will knowthey are using the correct nozzle for the job being performed. Inaddition to a system of identifying nozzles, the publication alsorequires that manufacturers make other operating information andparameters available in such forms as are suitable for theoperator.
Application of the system of identification in this publicationis voluntary, however if a manufacturer chooses to employ it or itis contractually required by a purchaser, then it will be necessaryto comply with all the requirements of the publication.
In the oxyfuel welding and cutting industry, every equipmentmanufacturer has its own system for designating the size of oxyfuelnozzles for cutting, welding, and heating/brazing. These systemsare based on a variety of different nozzle features and in manycases are completely arbitrary. In any case, it is currentlyimpossible to identify a nozzle by model number for a givenmanufacturer and cross reference it to a different manufacturer toobtain like performance and size, i.e., there is no commonalityamong manufacturers to identify like nozzles for performance anduse. The intent of this publication is to provide a system foruniform identification of cutting, welding, and heating/brazingnozzles. This publication describes in detail the information thatthe equipment manufacturers should permanently mark on theiroxyfuel cutting, welding, and heating/brazing nozzles.
