The Structural Welding Code, hereinafter referred to as theCode, provides welding requirements for the construction ofaluminum structures. It is intended to be complementary with anygeneral code or specification for design and construction ofaluminum structures.
Although the provisions of the Code are generally applicable toany aluminum structure, owners, architects, and engineers using theCode for structures should recognize that not all of its provisionsmay be applicable or suitable to their particular structures.However, any modifications of the Code deemed necessary by theseauthorities should be clearly referenced in the contractualagreement between the owner and the contractor. 1
1. As used in this commentary, contractor designates the partyresponsible for performing the welding under the Code. The term isused collectively to mean contractor, fabricator, erector,manufacturer, etc.
Recommended provisions are given in Section 2, Design; Section3, Workmanship; and Section 4, Technique. Section 4 includeswelding procedures, with specific reference to preheat, fillermetals, and other pertinent requirements. Additional requirementsfor recommended joints in tubular construction are given in Section10.
