These safe practice recommendations are intended to provide abase-line document for owners andusers of electron beam (EB) welding and cutting equipment to followand a minimum standard forprotecting personnel and property from the potential hazardsspecifically associated with electronbeam welding and cutting. These safe practice recommendations applyalso, for the most part, to EBheat treating, EB curing, EB metal deposition, etc. No attempt hasbeen made to include here allthe potential hazards associated with welding and cutting processes ingeneral, which are coveredby ANSI-Z49.1 (latest edition),(Footnote 1) Safety in Welding andCutting, nor all the OSHAregulations established to protect personnel working on (or around)various forms of industrialmachinery and vacuum equipment. The general requirements outlined inboth these applicabledocuments should be strictly adhered to at all times.
Footnote 1 – ANSI-Z49.1 (1967) was the primary basis for the OSHAstandards covering welding,cutting, and brazing (29CFR 1910 Subpart Q).
