The standard gives requirements and recommendations concerning the establishment and operation of a gauging station on a lake, reservoir, river or artificial open channel for the measurement of stage or discharge or both. It is based on the International Standard ISO 1100/1, having the same title. An asterisk (*) is used to indicate those sections that differ from ISO 1100/1.
The requirements for a stage-measuring station are set out in section 5. The requirements for a discharge-measuring station are classified under two headings:
a. Individual measurements – These include methods suitable for a single measurement of discharge or a limited number of measurements often used to calibrate a station.
b. Regular measurements – These include methods suitable for relatively frequent measurements often made over many years.
The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
