This standard applies to two grades of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) used only for fuel purposes. These grades consist mainly of propane and propene (propylene).

Grade 1 is intended for use in internal combustion engines and for general industrial and commercial fuel applications. Grade 1 maintains a minimum octane quality by limiting concentrations of low-octanecomponents.

Note: The requirements for Grade 1 are derived from the GPA 2140 HD-5 specification.

Grade 2 is adequate for most industrial and domestic uses and may also be suitable for low severity internalcombustion engine applications where a high-octane fuel is not required.

Users of this standard are advised to take many factors into consideration, such as odorants as warning agents, detection and fire hazard of LPG, and its asphyxiant and anesthetic properties.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of material and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use.Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate jurisdictional authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
