Summarizes the work of Research Team 257 to update the previous CII research on procurement and materials management. Describes the team’s research process: its review of the body of knowledge on the discipline; and the two surveys and nine case studies it conducted. Also discusses the implementation resources developed by the team—IR257-2, Global Procurement & Materials Management: An eGuide to Effective Project Execution, and IR257-3, Materials Management Planning Guide. These resources provide specific guidelines, processes, and recommendations for implementing an effective, up-to-date materials management program. These guides also examine enabling technologies, management/organizational structures, and emerging issues for materials management programs.
