This standard applies to fixed chip capacitors for directcurrent, with metallized electrodes and polyethylene-terephthalatedielectric for use in electronic equipment. These capacitors havemetallized connecting pads or soldering strips and are intended tobe mounted directly onto substrates for hybrid circuits or ontoprinted boards. These capacitors may have Itself-healingproperties” depending on conditions of use. They are primarilyintended for applications where the ac component is small withrespect to the rated voltage. They may be encapsulated orunencapsulated, as indicated in the detail specification.
Object
The object of this standard is to prescribe preferred ratingsand characteristics and to select from IEC Publication 384-1(1982), the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests andmeasuring methods and to give general performance requirements forthis type of capacitor. Test severities and requirements prescribedin detail specifications referring to this sectional specificationshall be of equal or higher performance level, because lowerperformance levels are not permitted.
