This standard sets forth guidelines and performance-basedcriteria for the design and use of systems for sampling thereleases of airborne radioactive substances from the ducts andstacks of nuclear facilities.
Relationship to other standards The potential applications ofthis standard are diverse, and consequently it is inappropriate toincorporate the many laws, regulations, and guidelines ofgovernmental bodies that have an interest in the measurement ofradioactive air emissions. It is incumbent on the user to befamiliar with the applicable regulations.
Application of this standard The requirements presented in thisstandard are aimed at sampling programs conducted for regulatorycompliance. These requirements may not be universally applicable toall sampling programs, especially those with more limitedobjectives such as process control. When designing systems withobjectives other than regulatory compliance, the designer shouldexercise professional judgement in the application of theserequirements and should explicitly document the sampling objectivesand the reasons for any exceptions to the requirements of thisstandard.
