This standard applies to radiation gauging devices, commonlycalled devices, that use sealed radioactive sources ormachinegenerated sources for the determination or control ofthickness, density, level, interface location, particle sizedistribution, or qualitative or quantitative chemical composition.The standard establishes a system for classification of the gaugingdevices based on performance specifications relating to radiationsafety. In addition to specific tests for use conditions andaccident conditions (fire), guidelines for other safety featuresand considerations are presented. This standard does not apply tothe measurement performance of gauging devices.
