SAME AS UL 60079-15
This standard specifies requirements for theconstruction, testing and marking for Group II electrical equipmentwith type of protection, “n” intended for use in explosive gasatmospheres. This standard applies to electrical equipment wherethe rated voltage does not exceed 15 kV r.m.s. a.c. or d.c.
This standard is applicable to non-sparking electricalequipment and also to electrical equipment with parts or circuitsproducing arcs or sparks or having hot surfaces which, if notprotected in one of the ways specified in this standard, could becapabl e of igniting a surrounding explosive gas atmosphere. Thisstandard describes several different methods by which this can beachieved which may be combined with other methods described inANSI/ISA60079-0.
This standard supplements and modifies the general requirementsof ANSI/ISA-60079-0, except as indicated in Table 1. Where arequirement of this standard conflicts with a requirement ofANSI/ISA-60079-0, the requirement of this standard takesprecedence.
NOTE 1 The clause number in the above table is shown forinformation only. The applicable requirements ofANSI/ISA-60079-0 are identified by the clause title which isnormative. This document was written against the specificrequirements of ANSI/ISA-60079-0 (ed. 5.0). The clausenumbers for the previous edition are shown for information only. This is to enable the General Requi rements ANSI/ISA-60079-0(ed. 5.0) to be used where necessary with this part ofANSI/ISA-60079. Where there were no requirements, indicatedby “NR” or there is a conflict between requirements, the lateredition requirements take precedence.
NOTE 2 A non-incendive component is limited in use to theparticular circuit for which it has been shown to be non – ignitioncapable and, therefore, cannot be separately assessed as complyingwith this standard.
NOTE 3 Compliance with this standard does not imply any removalof, or lowering of the requirements of any other standard withwhich the electrical equipment complies.
NOTE 4 This part of ANSI/ISA-60079 supplements, and mayenhance, the requirements for equipment for normal industrialapplications. Where compliance with other IEC standards isindicated, such as IEC 60034 for motors and IEC 60598-2 forluminaires, proving compliance to those standards is normally theresponsibility of the manufacturer.
NOTE 5 Type of protection “n” provides Equipment Pro tectionLevel (EPL) Gc. For further information, seeANSI/ISA-60079-0.
