Purpose

This standard addresses the application of Safety InstrumentedSystems (SIS) for the process industries. The SIS addressedincludes Electrical (E)/, Electronic (E)/ and ProgrammableElectronic (PE) technology. This standard is process industryspecific within the framework of the International ElectrotechnicalCommission (IEC) draft Publication 1508 (References C.8 and C.9).This standard follows the Safety Life Cycle presented later (seeFigure 4.1).
