This standard provides the specification for the interface whichcoincides with the Refe rence Point “A” defined in the TR45 NetworkRe ference Model shown in [I-4] and with Reference point 48 asdefined in the Network Reference Model shown in [27]. The scope ofthis standard includes the following topics:
• Descriptions of the specified functional capabilitiesthat provide wireless telecommunications services across the A1interface as defined in the TR45 Network Reference Model,
• Descriptions of the division of responsibility of thefunctions provided between the BS and the MSC, without prescribingspecific implementations ,
• Descriptions of the A1 interface standard that supportDS-41 [7] and cdma2000®1 systems,
• Descriptions of the specified functional capabilit iesthat provide circuit -services across the packet transport basedMSCe-BS (A1p) and MGW-BS (A2p) interfaces as defined in the NetworkReference Model shown in [27]. It should be noted that, for a givencall, the transcoder may or may not be in the MGW or BS. Thisprotocol definit ion is not limited by the location or existence ofthe transcoder in the bearer path,
• Descriptions of the division of responsibility of thefunctions provided between th1 e BS and the MSCe and MGW withoutprescribing specific implementations.
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide a standard forinterfacing a MSC with one or more Base Stations (BSs). Inaddition, this standard provides for interfacing a Mobile SwitchingCenter Emulat ion (MSCe) and a MGW to one or more BSs. Thisdocument defines the functional capabilit ies, including servicesand features, of the specified interface. These services andfeatures are the defining characteristics that are the basis forthe overall system standard.
