INTRODUCTION
This method describes a procedure for determining the lineardimensional changes in extruded plastic cable jackets due toexposure at elevated temperatures while in place on acable.
The primary use of the test procedure is evaluation of opticalfiber cables. Results of this testing can inform decisions of theperformance of cables in closures, connectors, or otherterminations. Testing of the basic morphological changes in theextruded jacket material, independent of the cable structure, isaddressed in Annex A (normative) in order to clarify the testprocedures. This Annex comprises the test procedure details of theoriginal FOTP-86.
The intent of this procedure is to determine compliance of acable specimen at a specified temperature for a specified period oftime. Users who desire to characterize the time-response of a cablespecimen at elevated temperatures should consider using IEC60794-1-22, method F11, “Sheath shrinkage (cables intended forpatch cords)”.
