ANSI APPROVAL WITHDRAWN MARCH 2004
This Sectional Specification is intended for use only in conjunctionwith Basic SpecificationEIA/TIA-455-A. Generic Specification TIA/EIA-4720000-A, and withappropriate DetailSpecification(s). It covers fiber optic cables intended for use incommunications system and inother systems employing similar technologies.
This Sectional Specification covers the requirements for opticalcables containing multimode orsingle-mode optical fibers, or both. Such cables may includeelectrical conductors. It is intendedthat the optical fibers meet the requirements of theEIA/TIA-492-Series Specifications.
This Sectional Specification covers the requirements for opticalcables that are designed foroutside plant use. Unless otherwise specified in the DetailSpecification, the followingcharacteristics shall apply:
– the cables shall be capable of being installed at a minimumtemperature of −30°C;
– the cable operating temperature range shall be at least−40°C to +65°C.
– cables shall have a minimum bend diameter not greater that 20X cablediameter when installed, and30X cable diameter during installation.
The object of this Specification is to delineate the generalrequirements for outside plant cableand to assist those who prepare Detail Specifications using thisdocument and other applicableSpecifications.
This object is carried out, in part, by prescribing preferred ratingsand characteristics, and inselecting from Generic Specification TIA/EIA-4720000-A the appropriateQuality Assessmentprocedures, tests, and measurement methods.
Clause 4 describes preferred values for construction characteristicsand for dimensional,mechanical, optical, and environmental attributes.
Clause 5 describes the Quality Assessment procedures that includes asummary, in Table 1, ofqualification approval attributes, methods, sampling, and requirementsto be placed in the DetailSpecification. The section also describes the Quality Assessmentprocedures that includes asummary, in Table 2, of the above information, as well as the QualityConformance Inspectionmethods for conformance.
Clause 6 outlines the test and measurement procedures for theattributes outlined in Tables 1 and2.
This Specification also indicates which test options and performancerequirements may be left tothe Detail Specification preparer via a Blank Detail Specificationthat references this SectionalSpecification.
