FOREWORD
This document contains the requirements for the Removable UserIdentity Module (R-UIM). It is an extension of Subscriber IdentityModule (SIM), per latest [17]1 capabilities, to enableoperation in a [14/15] radiotelephone environment. Examples of thisenvironment include, but are not limited to, analog, [14]-basedCDMA and the [1-5] family of standards.
These requirements are expressed as additions to the currentspecification of the SIM. The composite R-UIM is comprised of thecurrent SIM specification and this ancillary or “delta” document. The SIM specification is included as a reference. It is intendedthat all upgrades to the SIM specification will also apply to theR-UIM.
The current SIM specifications (see references) address thephysical and electrical characteristics of the removable module, along with the user-to-card interface and terminal-to-cardsignaling protocol. Operation in a [14/15] environment requiresthat additional commands and responses be developed within thecontext of this document. This document also defines new ElementaryFiles (EFs) for storage of parameters that are added for operationin a [14/15] environment.
This standard specifies security-related procedures andcommands, along with data and information storage items that permitbasic operation in the [14/15] environment. Later versions areexpected to also address the delivery of [14/15] user features andservices via the R-UIM.
Although the focus of this document is compatibility with[14/15], the scope of this document may later be expanded toinclude compatibility with other [15]-related technologies such asTDMA and AMPS.
