T61058.1.2-A Scope
T61058.1.2-A This International Standard IEC 1058 applies to switches for appliances actuated by hand, by foot or by other human activity for use in, on or with appliances and other equipment for household and similar purposes, with a RATED VOLTAGE not exceeding 440 V and a RATED CURRENT not exceeding 63 A. It also covers the INDIRECT ACTUATION of the switch when the function of the ACTUATING MEMBER is provided by a part of an appliance or equipment such as a door.
T61058.1.2-A Modification of 1.1 for supply voltages and currents for North America:
T61058.1.2-A Replace “440 V” with “600 V” and add horsepower ratings up to 2 hp.
T61058.1.2-A Modification of 1.1:
T61058.1.2-A Remove “for household and similar purposes.”
T61058.1.2-A This standard applies to switches intended to be incorporated in, on or with an appliance or equipment.NOTES
1. For switches used in tropical climates, additional requirements may be necessary.
2. Attention is drawn to the fact that the standards for appliances and equipment may contain additional or alternative requirements for switches.
3. Throughout this standard the word “appliance” means appliance or equipment.
T61058.1.2-A This part also applies to switches for appliances such as:
1. – switches integrated in an appliance (INTEGRATED SWITCHES );
2. – switches incorporating electronic components (electronic switches);
3. – switches intended to be connected to a cord (cord switches);
4. – switches intended to be mounted apart from the appliance (independently mounted switches) other than those within the scope of IEC 669;
5. – voltage selector switches.
for which, however, particular requirements may be given in Part 2.NOTE 4 – Part 1 is applicable when testing INCORPORATED SWITCHES. When other types of switches for appliances are tested, this Part 1 is applicable together with the relevant Part 2.Part 1 may, however, be applied for other types of switches which are not mentioned in Part 2, provided that the electrical safety is not disregarded.T61058.1.2-A Addition to 1.3 to indicate which switches do not apply:
T61058.1.2-A This part does not apply to switches intended to be covered within the scope of IEC 669-1; UL 20; C22.2 No. 111-M1986; and UL 98.
T61058.1.2-A Modification of 1.3:
T61058.1.2-A Remove “may be given in Part 2” and replace with “are to comply with the appropriate supplements, annexes to UL 61058-1, or UL Standards.”
T61058.1.2-A IEC 1058 is not applicable to switches integrated with an automatic control. Such switches are within the scope of IEC 730-1.
T61058.1.2-A Addition of 1.5dv to indicate which switches do not apply.
T61058.1.2-A These requirements do not cover switches which are covered by an existing standard such as those constructed so that they can be installed readily in a flush-device box or an outlet-box COVER or can otherwise be used in a wiring system that complies with NFPA-70 and Part 1 of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
T61058.1.2-A Addition of 1.6dv for components evaluated to a component standard.
T61058.1.2-A A component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. However, a component need not comply with a specific requirement that:
1. – Involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in the product covered by this standard, or
2. – Is superseded by a requirement in this standard.
